Imagine…Thanksgiving

Ask yourself = What does it takes to make you happy?

Now take a step back, and think about what things make your life a lot easier.

Then take one more step backwards, and consider what you need in life to survive.

Now erase all that in your mind, and begin again. With each statement, I want you to visualize what it would look like to you.

Imagine

Imagine that you didn’t have somewhere safe to go on Thanksgiving.
Imagine that you had a safe place to go, but you lay in a hospital bed.
Imagine that a friend visited you one day and took you home.
Imagine that, now safe and healthy, your heart fulfilled, you both sat down to an empty table.
Imagine you and your loved sharing a meal that you had together prepared with love.

Think

What more does one need to sustain life? I know that in modern times, it takes things like a job, a paycheck, access to education and ways to develop life skills to get that job, health insurance and a healthcare system, door locks and fire alarms for safety, access to food and clean water, finding a place to live, access to skilled plumbing and electrical labor, and ways to get from one place to another, to achieve much of the above.

So what in life do we really need?

I am Thankful for the ability and luxury of having what I need to survive. Surely, it takes more of one thing than another to suit the needs of different people. For example, I need  access many medications and treatments due to my Cystic Fibrosis. Each of us is different, so your answers may not resemble mine in the least.

As you think about this, keep in mind that all humans share the basic needs in order to healthily function in every aspect life – mental, physical, emotional – before growing, before moving on to the next season of life. Like a ladder, you can’t reach the top until you step on the lower rungs.

I wish you and your loved ones a Thanksgiving day when your bellies and hearts are full, in a place where you can live life unencumbered by fear and worry, and spent the way that you wish to celebrate.

This guy will certainly have a big table to sit on, with lots of people surrounding him, with a belly full of stuffing. Yes, I believe that God created the food chain!

Whether you share my religious beliefs of not, please accept my prayers and best wishes that you may have everything you need in life, and that you feel gratitude for all that you do have.

Happy Thanksgiving!
